Actress & Theatre Director
Since the age of 5, Maria has always been on stage. Only in high school, after creating her first short play, did she realise that directing was her calling.
Having studied English Philology at the University of Warsaw, Maria graduated with a Master’s Degree in British Literature and Culture in 2023. Literary studies enable her to conduct in-depth analysis of the theatre projects she works on.
Together with The Cheerful Hamlets, she appeared in an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap and in the group’s own musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby entitled Gatsby. The Musical. As a director, she debuted with Shakespeare’s Macbeth (2022), and she has completed her work on the Bard’s The Merchant of Venice (2024). During Gatsby. The Musical, she acted as the stage manager for the first time.
At Irwin Appel’s side, she took part in a theatre project in Kraków, Poland as an assistant director and stage manager during the production of The Death of Kings (2023). Due to the last-minute indisposition of one of the leading actresses, she stepped into the role of Henry V less than 24 hours before the opening night.
In February 2024, she returned to these two roles, this time at Fiona Quinn’s side during the annual FISP Irish Ball 2024 – a luxury charity gala infused with artistic programme prepared by the students of the Cork College of FET, Ireland as a part of Erasmus+ programme.
Summer 2024, Maria has spent in Prague, Czechia working on The Merchant of Venice as an assistant director to Guy Roberts and Alasdair Hunter at the 2024 Summer Shakespeare Intensive organised by the Prague Shakespeare Company. Among others, the company has taken this production on tour to Italy, where The Merchant of Venice was staged in Venice in Teatro a l’Avogaria.
